Three streets as part of the Dynamo Stadium and surrounding territory reconstruction project will be named after a great artist and passionate Dynamo fan Yuri Nikulin, an unstoppable front man of the Dynamo and the USSR national team Igor Chislenko and an outstanding trainer Mikhail Yakushin.
These street names are the result of the contest among the fans, followers in VTB Arena Park social media, residents of Airport district and Serebryany Dozhd radio listeners, which had been approved by the city inter-departmental committee on naming of territorial units, streets, metro stations, organizations and other objects of Moscow before the New Year.
Over 400 people participated in the contest and offered over 600 name options.
The contest expert board, consisting of representatives from MC “Dynamo”, Airport District Council, famous Dynamo members, artists and journalists, prepared a short list of 27 possible names. The city inter-departmental committee then chose 9 names out of the short list – 3 name options for each street. The final names were later determined through on-line voting in social media and approved at the meeting of the city inter-departmental committee at the end of the year 2017.
Maxim Nikulin, General Director of the Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, “Of course, it is pleasant news. I always said that a person is alive until people remember. It seems that there are such a lot of monuments in honor of Yuri Nikulin and movies with his participation are still popular. And we can see on TV from time to time his clown image, which is also well remembered. The newly built Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard was built by him, thanks to his efforts, his authority, his will. What else could it be? However, a street, on the one hand, is an eternity and, on the other hand, it is always alive, something is always happening there, there is movement and energy. In addition, the street is located in Dynamo district, a passionate fan of which my father had always been since his childhood. Besides, next to my father’s street, there will be two more streets named after the great Dynamo members: a brilliant front man Igor Chislenko and a great trainer Mikhail Yakushin who was my father’s acquainted.”
Andrei Peregoudov, Senior Vice President of VTB Bank and the head of VTB Arena Park, “The new streets in our cluster have found their respectable and legendary names. The national favorite artist Yuri Nikulin had been a Dynamo fan for all his life. And he supported Dynamo with his special humor, irony and respect to the Dynamo opponents. Mikhail Yakushin is a veteran of our national trainership, one of the Dynamo’s symbols, who brought victory to Dynamo while being its player and trainer. The Moscow Dynamo’s triumphant voyage to Great Britain under his guidance still remains one of the most glorious pages in our national football history. Igor Chislenko was an idol for millions of fans, a fantastic front man who entered the symbolic national team at the 1966 World Cup in England when our football players won the first place at this world competition for the first and still the only time. We were glad that such a lot of people participated in the contest: fans, veterans, citizens and Moscow visitors. From its very foundation, the Dynamo area was a favorite place for leisure, walking and meetings with friends; VTB Arena Park stands out for such traditions to be preserved and supported.”
The new streets in the Dynamo district will get proper navigation signs upon final commissioning of the project part where the streets are located.
